Come out and have your suppressor tested using standard suppressor testing procedures, with state-of-the-art test equipment.

Weather:

• Clear weather is required. Rain will ruin the microphones.
• We need low to moderate wind. >12 MPH is out of spec.

Ammo requirements:

• 20+ rounds per firearm/suppressor combo. In a perfect world we only need 13 rounds (3 unsuppressed, 10 suppressed), but be sure to bring extra rounds for do-overs, etc.
• It’s good to meter common ammo types so people can compare results more directly. While you can shoot anything you want, here are some recommendations:
• • CCI Std Vel is a good choice for .22 LR. It’s widely available and commonly used for metering.
  • For centerfire pistol Winchester White Box is also widely available and commonly used for metering. Generic Federal is used a lot too.
  • For handloads the bullet weight and power are useful data points.
  • Supersonic rounds are loud in any case so brand doesn’t matter so much.

Metering protocol:

• We’ll record your suppressor model, host firearm, barrel length if it’s non-standard, ammo type, and caliber. If you have a Form 1 suppressor, any information you want to provide is useful.

• We will follow MIL-Std-1474D, with one mic 1 meter to the left of the muzzle, 1.6 meters from the ground. We will also record left and right ear sound pressure levels, so we’ll have three data points per shot.
• The meters are all Larson-Davis 800Bs, with B&K 4938 mics. These have extremely fast rise times to capture the peaks.
• While 30 shots are considered the minimum for most statistical purposes, experience has shown that 10 shots give similar results. 10 shots are also considerably faster and less expensive.
• When the data are all tabulated and checked the results will be made available to everyone for free on the DPRC site under “Events / Suppressor Measurement” via a Google Docs spreadsheet. We will add to the previous event results sheet.
