·This class teaches practical applications for those who want to become more familiar with their carbine weapon system.

·PURPOSE: Provide the student with foundational knowledge on which to build their skills in the art of self-defense with a carbine. Students will leave this course as educated beginners with a tool kit of drills and practical knowledge on which to practice and build up their proficiency.

·Topics:

  • 1.    Safety Briefing
  • 2.    Range Commands
  • 3.    Class Philosophy - Mindset, Situational Awareness, training with purpose, efficiency.
  • 4.    Understanding your Weapon System
  • 5.    Use and selection of slings
  • 6.    Fundamentals of Marksmanship - Stance, Grip, Sight Picture, Trigger Control, Recoil Management, Running the Slide, Press-Check
  • 7.    Dry-fire and Live-fire drills, including
  • a.     Understanding “battlefield zero” and use of optics
  • b.    Ammunition Management - tactical and emergency reloads.
  • c.     Recoil Management
  • d.    Malfunction Clearing
  • 8.    Debrief/After-Action Discussion

·REQUIREMENTS:

  • 1.    An open mind, willingness to take instruction and the ability to challenge pre-conceived notions we’ve all learned from YouTube instructors and Hollywood.  This course teaches only practical, real-world techniques.
  • 2.    A functional carbine rifle, typically of the AR-15, AK-47 or comparable pistol-caliber carbine (such as a CZ Scorpion).  This class is based upon the AR-15 platform, but techniques can be adapted to other weapons systems.
  • 3.    A sturdy sling fitted to your rifle.  Single point, 2-point and 3-point slings are acceptable, but a 2-point sling is preferred and will be used as the teaching model for the class.  A “Vickers” style 2-point sling is the preferred sling for this class.
  • 4.    At least four hundred (400) rounds of factory-loaded, brass-cased and copper-jacketed ammunition.  No reloaded ammunition or steel-core (armor piercing) rounds are permitted (we will be shooting steel targets).  Steel-cased ammunition is not recommended for the AR-15 platform, as it has a tendency to jam if your rifle is not clean.  Please double-check your ammunition if you are using the AK-47 platform – the vast majority of 7.62x39mm ammo is steel core (including the “bi-metal” kind) and cannot be used on steel targets.
  • 5.    Red-dot and magnified optics are permitted (and in fact encouraged).  All optics should be sighted in at twenty-five (25) yards prior to class.  If you have questions about how to properly sight-in your optic, contact the instructor prior to class.  Back-up iron sights are recommended, but not required.
  • 6.    Weather conditions are often rapidly changing in North Carolina, so please dress appropriately and in layers.  Class is held rain or shine, as you cannot pick the weather for your gunfight.  Please be aware that red-dot optics are rendered mostly useless when they are wet, so back-up irons are strongly recommended if you have a red-dot.
  • 7.    A packed lunch is recommended – food options are limited in the DPRC area and lunch will be held to a strict 1-hour time limit.
  • 8.    Water, lots of it.  Hydration is important, as this will be an active class.
  • DPRC Member:  $175.00
  • Non-Member:  $200.00
